The National Day Parade (NDP) 2011 Show is presented in an integrated musical, showcasing the Singapore Spirit and Singapore’s progress over a prologue and five acts. Stringing the acts together are several main characters and various renditions of this year’s theme song “In a Heartbeat”. The show tells the story of Singapore from the perspective of a family, centre-ing on two main characters- Mother and Son, whose story brings out different elements of the Singapore Spirit, with Singapore’s history as the backdrop.{Information from NDPeeps}

Love this video! Old memories…… for the older and younger generation.

Singapore’s birthday on the (9 August !)

Different parts of the video has story behind it:

0:04sec is an old sewing machine use mostly by the older generation. The old people loves this type of sewing mashine because it is useful and handy to them. I have a same sewing machine at home which belongs to my grandma. One of best friend’s grandma has one too. πŸ™‚ My grandma and aunt love it!~The sewing mashine is made out of strong wood and metal. I love the unique design of the wheels and everything!( When I was a child , I like to step on the metal plate so that the wheels will move. ^^)Shown in the start of the video). This does bring back good memories not only for myself but all Singaporeans!Old people too. πŸ™‚

0:04-0:11 sec This part shows a lady sewing clothes for a customer. My mum’s elder sisters also did the same thing for a living when they were young. I bet they love doing it! Because what they made were popular among girls including my mum. My mum told me that even till now some of the vintage clothes are exactly or similar to those days ones.( I wore this kind of clothes before ! Ok ? She will always told me this when she saw something similar.hahaha.) At that time, it is really useful to have sewing skill to earn money. πŸ™‚

0:11 -0:18 sec- Hehe this part belongs to childhood memories. Catching fish with neighbourhood children getting along together.

0:18-0:26 sec Here is a example of how a ice cream shop look like in the past.!The green machine is to break the ice. The broken ice will be make into ice ball fill with lots of colourful syurp on top which looks like rainbow.It is a popular dessert treat for the children.Those children in the video bought something like a eye mask. It is actually chocolate candy like M&M with a eye mask package.I think the purpose of eye mask package is to bring more joy to the children because they can play with it. I bought those before too! It is also part of my childhood memories although I don’t belong to that time.

0:27-0:30 sec Black and white television to colour television. Multi – ethnic in Singapore.

0:31-0:36 sec Ah! My favourite childhood food “The BIg Round bicuits”. (It is what the children eating in the video!)I love it too ! I always hold the bicuits under the light so that I could see through it. HAHAHA πŸ˜‰ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ It doesn’t cost much for a packet. There were different colours of bicuits such as green,pink and yellow in a packet. I always choose the green ones. πŸ™‚ The children also eat cuttlefish on stick!I try it before in Indonesia. πŸ™‚

In the past, Singaporeans lives in villages. This is special because the bond between neighbours are strong. They help and care for each other. Singapore have changed a lot for the past few decade. People move out of village to the urban areas for a better living. I think some of them still stay in contact with each other.I do believe that those people will still remember those good memories they have from the past.

I strongly believe that Singapore will continue to move forward. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Here I want to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE!!!!

Thank you Singapore!~ πŸ™‚
